Pathways to Agriculture is a year-long internship that will support 8-10 high school students in their learning about agriculture, agribusinesses, community organizing, and outreach. Together, the cohort will plan farming and food justice education workshops for young people across Middlesex and Greater Hartford County. They’ll also be developing business plans, and incubating their own farm projects at our sites in Bloomfield and Middletown. Interns will develop business plans, and P2A farm projects at our at the Miller Street Community Farm, Middletown community farm that provides veggies, eggs, and honey to local residents. Pathways2Agriculture Chicks Ahoy Farm's Pathways to Agriculture is a year-long internship to support high school students in their learning about agriculture & community organizing. In 2024, we held our first Pathways to Agriculture (P2A). A cohort of high-school age youth interns who develop farming and business skills, practice community organizing, and lead workshops for youth. P2A Cohorts also help to raise money for community farm supplies! P2A Interns Fight For Probation Reform Install the new Miller Street chickens! P2A Interns work to connect underrepresented families and children to agriculture! Together, the cohort will plan farming and food justice education workshops for young people across Middlesex and Greater Hartford County.

Chicks Ahoy Farm is a not-for-profit working to promote pathways to sustainable farming and increase the number of women and BILPOC farmers in the State of Connecticut. Chicks Ahoy Farm Chicks Ahoy Farm, Inc is a Bloomfield-based nonprofit organization that aims to increase the number of underrepresented farmers in Connecticut, increase youth and families’ access to FACES (Farming, Agriculture, Conservation, and Environmental Stewardship), and organize to fix the state’s broken social safety net. Our organization has built a network of youth, families, seniors, and directly-impacted members across Hartford County and beyond. We are cultivating systemic change and community resilience. Our programs and organizing projects are deeply committed to fostering systemic change, driving impactful local direct action, and providing robust public education across Connecticut. Chicks Ahoy Farm was founded in response to gross disparities in the US Dept of Agriculture's police and practices in Connecticut. Building Leadership & Organizing Capacity Equipping Leaders and Organizers with the skills and knowledge is our mission. Building Leadership & Community Organizing Capacity (BLOC) is designed to build community organizing skills for individuals working in neighborhoods and building communities across Connecticut. We provide advice, coaching, support, and training to assist aspiring farmers. We help them with identifying veteran Connecticut Farmers for mentorship to teenagers, women, BILPOC, and local people seeking to start farming in urban and underserved municipalities of the state. The goal is to foster a new generation of farmers & leaders of color equipped to drive social change. Support is designed to take on community-identified information that will facilitate more farming in urban and suburban cities in Connecticut. These sessions are held throughout the calendar year to help people build their own farm projects. Co-op2Kitchen (C2K) is a farmer-supported mutual aid project helping individuals and families in Bloomfield, Hartford, and Middletown meet immediate needs around food security, health, and hygiene by providing them with fresh produce, chicken eggs, and other essential items. #CoOp2kitchen Our Mission Co-op2Kitchen (C2K) is a farmer-supported mutual aid project helping individuals and families in Bloomfield, Hartford, and Middletown meet immediate needs around food security, health, and hygiene by providing them with fresh produce, chicken eggs, and other essential items. Our People! Who We Are Initiated in 2023, Co-op2Kitchen has expanded its offerings and reach. Our growth is the direct result of the increase in the number of locally based BILPOC farmers, and our relationships with rural producers, growers, artisans, florists, beekeepers, anglers, and service providers. Members & Volunteers Our members receive support from C2K, and alongside volunteers, they: Build partnerships with local vendors and acquire supplies weekly; Hold weekly door-to-door outreach to share food and information with people; Hold weekly distribution times that accommodate work and school schedules; and Host weekly volunteering opportunities for phone banking and to help clip coupons for our Coop-On Book, which are shared with C2K members to aid in their shopping Become a Member or Volunteer Farmers & Vendors We source our products and services from CT farmers, vendors, and professionals in our network. Promote the history of farming and agriculture in Bloomfield, and build people’s farming skills. Conservation: Reviewing land maps, conservation and protection plans for land and open spaces like the Great Drain, wetlands, trails, forestry, and parks. Environmental: Produce educational materials, surveys, and land plans to protect natural resources, addresing priorities for conservation planning, and increasing local advocacy opportunities that address problems caused by Climate Change. Cultivating Justice meets monthly with people who want to practice farming in urban comminties. This public meeting is where directly impacted people, organizers, advocates, and others share updates from campaigns across Connecticut's social justice movements. The statewide call is held on the Second Tuesday of the month at 11 am on Zoom.
