Chicks Ahoy Farm’s
Farm Committee

The Farm Committee was established in 2022 by startup farmers at Dee's Crafty Bees and Chicks Ahoy LLC.
The Farm Committee is responsible for the acquisition and management of the buildings, machinery, tools, equipment, and structures necessary for the operation of the physical farm sites.
Chicks Ahoy Farm’s
Farm Committee
The Farm Committee's mission is to enhance the skills, capacity, and resources available to aspiring farmers, conservationists, and environmentalists from youth, women, and BILPOC communities, enabling them to become more effective stewards of wetlands and local natural resources.
To advance this mission, Chicks Ahoy LLC and Dee’s Crafty Bees have partnered with farmers, community-based organizations, and financial institutions. This collaboration aims to establish a collective dedicated to addressing priorities deemed central to community safety, education, health, and the overall quality of life experience for local residents.
F.A.C.E.S
F.A.C.E.S. (Farming, Agriculture, Conservation, and Environmental Stewardship) serves as the foundational framework for our outreach initiatives, meeting agendas, and the requisitions presented to local commissions and municipalities.
These efforts are dedicated to supporting residents and businesses actively pursuing engagement and opportunities within Connecticut's Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting sector.
F.A.C.E.S
Our newly established FACES program will be combined with the long-standing Farmers and Leaders of Color (FLOC,) agribusiness coaching initiative.
This integration will enable us to more clearly define our objective of "increasing the number of BILPOC Farmers in Connecticut." This evolution of FLOC and the Farm Committee will enhance our efforts to implement systemic changes within municipalities, thereby removing barriers to entry into the agricultural industry.

Successful systems change for us means there must be infrastructure for agriculture built across underserved neighborhoods. Many of these areas are also known to be covered by ‘drug free school zones’. These neighborhoods have residents exposed to Excessive Supervision and increased contact with law enforcement. Growing pathways to agricultural business projects is core to Chicks Ahoy Farm’s mission.
The Fund was established in 2023 by the board of directors of Chicks Ahoy Farm Inc. The Farm Fund's mission is to cultivate capital and educational resources for the increasing number of aspiring farmers encountering obstacles on their path to agricultural endeavors in Connecticut. We envision farming not merely as a collection of skills for self-reliance, but as a means of introducing people to strategies for combating climate change, participating in community-based sustainability projects, and establishing locally owned agri-enterprises.
