Cultivating Justice is determined to hold Connecticut accountable and achieve options for #pathwaysnotpunishment and #supportnotsurveillance.

Cultivating Justice has officially launched the F.R.E.E. CT campaign, where our leaders and community members have decided to fight to change Connecticut's toxic probation system. With over 32,000 people on probation in the state of Connecticut, noncriminal technical violations (such as missing curfew or failing a drug test) are the leading causes of incarceration in the state. Instead of acting like a true alternative, probation in Connecticut is actually acting as a direct path to incarceration.

Please join Cultivating Justice for a F.R.E.E. CT Greater Hartford Public Meeting on December 17th to learn more about F.R.E.E. CT, sign up for a Circles for Change community exercise, and discuss proposed HB6361 with legislators, a bill that would eliminate incarceration as a consequence for non-criminal technical violations, introduce earned time credit for good behavior, and remove unnecessary and expensive supervision fees in order to reduce caseloads and reduce the trauma of arrest and incarceration.

Support the Reformation of Connecticut's Probation System.

Probation was designed to be an alternative to incarceration. Instead, it has become a direct pathway into the prison system, creating an endless cycle of supervision and incarceration, while also acting as a barrier to resources and support that would effectively target some of the root causes of crime, such as food insecurity. F.R.E.E. CT! is fighting for true change and demands #PathwaysNotPunishment and #SupportNotSurveillance.
