John Bailey, TCORS Capitol Group 

  • John provided an update on certain tasks and assignments people should focus on as the 2026 session approaches

  • Focus on three main priorities

  • Provide  a one pager, leave behind,  and testimony templates

  • Fine Tune talking points

  • Create a list of champion members in the committee that pertains to the legislation you are working on

  • Schedule pre-session meetings

  • Compile compelling stories 

  • Pull together coalitions of organizations that are interested in the same type of work

  • Get your team together and familiar with lobbying and moving their way around the Capitol

  • Pre-Session Advocacy Preparation for Social Justice Organizations Checklist 


Alex Brown, F.R.E.E. CT Chicks Ahoy Farm, Inc. 

  • Proposed HB 6361, a bill that will remove incarceration as a consequence for non criminal violations, remove the requirement to report technical violations to SNAP, introduce earned time credit

  • Highlighted gender response services because women impacted by probation face really unique barriers and are usually excluded from these type conversations

  • 200 signatures have been collected on the letter supporting HB6361 bill 

  • Sen. Winfield, Sen. Slapp, Sen. Lesser attending December 17th meeting

Jovan Humphries Castillo-One Standard of Justice

  • Jovan discussed the importance of restorative justice, and sexual crime prevention. She shared how her life and the life of people around her have been affected. Jovan is not only a survivor of sexual assault but an advocate for reform in CT. Her passion is spreading educational information and working towards changing current laws in the state


  • Capitol Towers Community Outreach is focused on improving the quality of life of Seniors staying at Capitol Towers

  • The first campaign started by the organization was to bring attention to Transit bus drivers that were not putting down the ramps for anyone besides people in wheelchairs or scooters. A citywide campaign throughout Hartford was created in order to bring awareness to these issues

  • SHOP currently has two campaigns: The Bus Campaign and the Jewell of Hartford (a project to renovate the YMCA on Jewell Street and turn it into affordable housing for seniors)
